Shipping Update / Clarification
over 7 years ago – Thu, Jan 26, 2017 at 08:21:21 PM

Hey folks!

We've heard your concerns around US shipping for some of the higher pledge levels, and I'm happy to come to you and tell you that we've worked on it. If you re-check your BackerKit, we've managed to lower the shipping on almost all $50 and higher pledge levels by $5 (for US based customers).

Important note: The "Powder Keg" pledge is not moving on shipping price. Shipping that many books is heavy and pricey.

Part of the reason for the previously high numbers was due to our decision to use Priority Flat Rate mail. We made this choice for a few reasons.

  • Less likely to increase between funding and shipping.
  • Faster delivery, which means better protection for the books, less risk of lost or damaged packages in transit.
  • Better for international shipping on a cost and efficiency level.

We had been concerned about the Poker Chips damaging the books and cards, or the chips breaking in transit in too tight a box. This caused us to choose a shipping option with plenty of room, padding and protection. However we figured out a solution to protect all the pieces in a way we feel comfortable with in a smaller box, hence the reduced cost.

Thank you for bringing those concerns to us, and we hope this helps alleviate some of your worries!

Backerkit is up!
over 7 years ago – Wed, Jan 25, 2017 at 05:56:44 PM

Hey all, Brian here. Sorry for taking so long to get Backerkit up and running. We had some unexpected delays navigating the system, but everything is ready now. You should all be getting Backerkit invites today. This is where you can double-check your backer level, add extra books to your order, and (most importantly), pay for shipping. Thanks for the patience!

BackerKit Update
over 7 years ago – Thu, Jan 12, 2017 at 03:00:53 PM

Alright folks!

BackerKit came back to us and requested we make a few changes to our set-up, which we've done, so now we've resubmitted to them. We anticipate it should be pretty quick!

As a thank you for your patience, here's a rules teaser! Keep in mind these are in pre-edit form and therefore still subject to change. They also haven't seen Brian's touch to add some flavor text and fluff around them and are strict rules text.

We'll give you the Arcane Background (Powder Mage) today. (It's hard to format these in Kickstarter, so I promise it looks prettier outside of this.

- Brian & Alan

Arcane Background (Powder Mage)

Arcane Skill: Ingest (Vigor)

Starting Power Points: Special, see below.

Starting Powers: Special, see below.

Spell List: See Below

Mechanics: Powder Mages are powered by ingesting gun powder. They can mystically burn this ingested powder in order to power magical effects. Powder Mages have a large swath of rules, laid out below.

  • All powder mages gain the Habit (Gun Powder) Hindrance at a minor level.
  • Powder Mages start with 0 Power Points
  • Each dose of Gunpowder they ingest (as an action) grants them 2 Power Points.
  • If their Vigor dice is d8 or less, after each action in which the Powder Mage ingests Powder, they must make a successful Vigor test or be Shaken.
  • After a Powder Mage has any Power Points, they gain count their Strength and Agility dice as one higher, they gain +2’ to Pace, and +2 to Notice tests.
  • If a Powder Mage ever has 6 or more Power Points, after they return to 0 they are automatically Fatigued, and must make a Spirit test. If they fail, they permanently gain the Major Hindrance: Habit (Gun Powder). If they already have the Major Hindrance, no effect.
  • Power Points fall off at the rate of 1 point per ten minutes.
  • Power Points can be spent for the following effects reflexively:
  • 1 Power Point to double the range of a Firearm. Multiple Powder Points increase this, but the cost increases by double each time. (For example, 1 Powder Point to double range, 2 more to quadruple range, 4 more to multiply range by 8).
  • 2 Power Points to add +1d6 to the damage of a powder based firearm. This can be spent multiple times.
  • 2 Power Points to reduce damage from a Firearm by -1d6. This can be spent multiple times.
  • 4 Power Points to make a container with Gun Powder in it explode as per the Burst Power. Every 2 Power Points spent over 4 counts as a Raise for determining the effects of the spell.
  • 2 Power Points to add +2 to a Shooting Roll.

 Trappings: Gunpowder and Flame

Update!
over 7 years ago – Thu, Dec 22, 2016 at 07:19:55 PM

Happy Holidays!

Folks, the BackerKit is almost set up. We're putting the final touches on it, and then we have to submit it for review. Once that's done, we'll send out the surveys to you.

You will notice lots of add-ons in there, so if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Once the New Year rolls around, we'll be back and explaining the steps we are taking in detail! Rest assured we're still working away, figuring out the art pieces and finalizing the rules.

Update: BackerKit
over 7 years ago – Thu, Dec 08, 2016 at 08:02:44 PM

Alan here!

We're rolling on the getting this book put together for you! Here are the steps we are taking.

  • Finalize Rules. The rules have been tested and are mostly final. We're working on sanding off a few rough edges.
  • Art. Brian and I are inventorying the art we will want and need for the book, and going out to commission it! This will be the longest part of the process.
  • Setting Writing. Brian is finalizing the outline of what we want to include in the book based on our funding totals, and planning his writing.
  • BackerKit. Alan is building the backerkit. You can expect to get invites to that before the month of December ends.

Once those four are done, we move onto the following.

  • Editing. Our editor will go over the text, and Brian and Alan will do a final pass.
  • Layout. We'll hand off the files and art to our layout artist.
  • Release PDF. We'll release the PDF, give it some time to circulate. Invariably, there will be errors you will catch, and we'll correct those.
  • Print. Once the PDF is finalized, we'll go to print! We already have our printer lined up (Brian has worked with them before!)
  • Shipping! Then we ship!

It's time consuming series of events, but we're on track to make our release deadlines! We're excited, and we hope you are too!

Expect more details in a bit!
